Loopt 4.0 for Android Hits the Android Market

A new mobile application was released recently on devices that run under Google's Android operating system, namely Loopt 4.0, which offers users the possibility to easily connect to people and places around.

The new version of the application was announced in early December, it seems that it became available only last week, at least this is what a recent post on the loopt blog reads.

The new application version comes with a wide range of changes when compared to the previously available solution, as well as with a completely new design. The video embedded below should offer a closer look at the application.

According to the said blog post, the new app version comes with features like:

- A streamlined new design, focused on finding friends and finding places that your friends like to go around you.
- Very cool tools to communicate with friends (like Ping, which lets you send location-text messages)
- The ability to see where friends are now, see where friends like to go around you now, and places where people are gathering right now.
- Rewards! Starting out with free music, you can now find rewards on Loopt while you go about town.
- Notifications when friends are nearby, when places are getting busy, and where the deals are to be found
- A very simple ON/OFF mechanism for automatic location sharing — right on the Home screen of Loopt — so you’re never in doubt about whether your location is being automatically updated; when automatic location sharing is OFF, your friends will only see where you are when you specifically check in to a place.

With the new Loopt 4.0 for Android, users can connect with their friends in more ways than before, as the app now features text, in addition to the existing Ping messages.

Moreover, the software solution comes with a more sophisticated list sorting of friends, though it would simplify the background location sharing.

There is also a Places button that includes check-in functionality, which also sports friend- and place-finding features. One can also Ping all friends in a place, straight from the Place page.

At the same time, the company announced that rewards from its popular rewards-only app, Loopt Star, are now being featured in Loopt.

“To kick things off, Loopt is expanding the popular Loopt Star “Discover the Music Around You” reward to the Loopt platform (the reward gives users five free songs from Loopt — with artists including Lady Gaga, Florence and the Machine, and more — for checking into any U.S. bar),” the company announced.

“Loopt Star has featured rewards from major brands, and more rewards like these will soon come to Loopt. To celebrate the debut of rewards in Loopt, the company will be hosting music events, which will feature more rewards for consumers and are scheduled in New York, San Francisco and Atlanta, Georgia.”
