Sony announces that Looney Tunes Galactic Sports is headed to the PlayStation Vita handheld gaming device sometime later this year.

The game is being developed by Virtual Toys, a studio that has been making games for 15 years, whose notable prior titles include a lot of licensed properties, among which Cars, Geronimo Stilton, and Phineas and Ferb.

Looney Tunes Galactic Sports will bring together all the popular Warner Bros. cartoon characters, including Daffy Duck, Bugs Bunny, Taz the Tasmanian Devil, and Wile E. Coyote, among others.

The Galactic Sports event takes place on Mars, the home of none other than the infamous Marvin the Martian, who also plays the role of host, as revealed on the PlayStation blog.

The intergalactic athletes will compete in a variety of trials and sports, with a distinct zany flavoring to go with the theme. From Space Boxing and Galactic Archery to Space Races, there will be a wide variety of entertainment outlets for gamers to enjoy while playing as their favorite character.

By taking part in the events, users will earn valuable XP points, which will allow them to unlock new characters and features. Each of the characters will possess their own set of particular skills, making them excel in some areas while not being so great in others, and putting a unique twist on all the competitive action.

In addition to this, players will also be able to unlock a wide assortment of gadgets using XP and event coins, while also using the ACME Corporation’s crazy contraptions to their advantage on the playing field.

Of course, players won’t have to complete all the challenges by themselves, as Looney Tunes Galactic Sports supports up to four friends playing together using the PS Vita’s ad hoc mode.

The development team is currently putting the finishing touches on the game, which is set for release later this year, available exclusively on the PlayStation Vita handheld system.
