Study shows that WiFi models make up a lot more than half the total

Looks like all the advertising and PR about 3G tablets ended up failing to actually make the things all that popular.

According to a study by Connected Intelligence, the sort of slates that only have WiFi support are much more widespread than the ones that also have 3G.

While 60-65% of tablet owners use WiFi, the cost of cellular data plans ended up getting 3G shunned by the majority of customers.

Some people even refuse to use any wireless support altogether.

It didn't help that tablet owners can usually just link their product to their smartphone.

“Concern over the high cost of cellular data plans is certainly an issue,” said said Eddie Hold, vice president, Connected Intelligence.

”But more consumers are finding that Wi-Fi is available in the majority of locations where they use their tablets, providing them ‘good enough’ connectivity.”
