Software security company Lookout has just announced that it has updated its Android application with a fix for Samsung Galaxy S III lock screen vulnerability discovered a week ago.

For those out of the loop, Terence Ede found a vulnerability that bypassed the Samsung Galaxy S III lock screen earlier this month, which would allow full access to the smartphone no matter the strength of the phone’s password.

Although Samsung did not issue any statements regarding this vulnerability, the folks over at Lookout have worked hard to ensure that Android users have the best protection possible against unwanted intrusions.

According to Lookout, an official security update is expected from Samsung as well, though there is no ETA for the moment. We recommend Android users to update their smartphones as soon as a security patch is released by the South Korean handset maker.

The company has just announced that it has patched this vulnerability by updating its Lookout Mobile Security Android application, which is now available for download on Google Play Store.

This means that Android users who install Lookout’s security application will be fully protected from this vulnerability. The update is specifically aimed at owners of the Samsung Galaxy S II, Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S III mini.

Aside from offering a patch for this vulnerability, Lookout Mobile Security users are also protected if the phone is lost or stolen, thanks to some of the application’s security features like ‘Lock.’

More details on how someone can bypass the lock screen on Samsung Galaxy S III in five steps can be found here.

Lookout Security & Antivirus 8.10.2 is now available as a free download via Google Play store and it should be fully compatible with all devices running Android 1.5 and up. Check it out here.
