GPS navigation is constantly evolving, as each major company involved in this specific field is trying to come up with some extremely innovative product that will give them the smallest possible edge over their many competitors. And this is the reason why the people over at Asus have rolled out the R700/R700t models, which come packed with some of the most advanced navigation software around,
capable of providing 3D panoramic views that make it simple for users to navigate complicated and multi-level junctions. These new models realistically display the surroundings with geographical illustrations and detailed road information.

However, the new R700/R700t also provide quite a lot of other interesting features beside these 3D Realistic Maps, as for example the Bluetooth 2.0 handsfree calling support, which allows users to make or receive calls without the need to install an extra handsfree system. Furthermore, the device also offers a text-to-speech function, being able to speak out SMS content directly to the car's audio system via the built-in FM transmitter.

The R700/R700t also contains a built-in auto light sensor that automatically optimizes the backlighting of the LCD panel, a safety feature that does more than just saving power, as it allows users to view navigational directions whether it is night or day or even when driving in a tunnel. And since we're on the subject, it's important to note that the PNDs sport a large 4.3 inch wide LCD screen with touchscreen capabilities, used either for viewing navigation maps or watching videos (browsing photos, etc.), as this high-end GPS navigation solution also incorporates several multimedia functions.

And now, for the purely technical details. The R700/R700t is built around a Samsung 400 Mhz CPU, 64 MB of SDRAM and 1 GB of NAND flash memory, used for running both the navigation software and the Microsoft CE 5.0 OS, as well as a SiRF Star III GPS receiver with internal antenna. It is powered by a 1300 mAh rechargeable Li-Ion battery and also sports a MicroSD expansion slot (up to 4 GB).

Unfortunately, Asus has not provided any pricing or availability details for the time being, but since they're packed to the teeth with the latest features available in this area, the two PNDs (which, by the way, are differentiated solely by the fact that the R700t version also sports a built-in TMC receiver) will most likely come at a pretty hefty price.

We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
