Light field technology might change your idea of what a real photo is

People were skeptical when Lytro spoke about the light field technology a while back, but an actual camera has now been launched and, though the build and specs may be a bit strange, the technology is practically revolutionary.

We won't try to feed you too many specs this time, since Lytro does a great job of it here.

What we will say is that there is a reason people will spend time checking and rechecking the photos they shot and what they can do with them.

Re-focusing and re-zooming are just two basic things that can be done, and the photos are even 3D compatible.

The secret behind this is that the Lytro light field camera “captures the entire light field, which is all the light traveling in every direction in every point in space,” though this does come with the price of each image being 16MB in size.
