Stylists usually say that, by 35 or so, women can and should experiment as much as possible with their hair, until they find just the color and the cut that best compliments their face and, why not, personality. Once this age is reached, however, the time for yet another change has come, which should mark a return to childhood – literally – as a new piece in the Daily Mail says.

The idea is that, as we age, our hair changes color and usually becomes darker. In order to kick off about 10 years from our appearance, the only thing we have to do is to dye the hair in the exact shade it had when we were about 4 or 5, stylists say. What’s even better is that this is a tried and proved method, as most celebrities in Hollywood are already coloring their hair to resemble the shade it had when they were small, just to improve their appearance by at least 10 years.

Hairdresser Lorri Goddard-Clark is the most sought after colorist in Los Angeles right now, with clients including Drew Barrymore, Sienna Miller, Michelle Pfeiffer, Kate Winslet, Heidi Klum and the Olsen twins. Her method is as simple as it’s efficient: she just asks clients to bring with them a photo of themselves when they were about 4 or 5. What she does next is highlight the hair and then dyes it, so as to get that naturally sunkissed highlights look.

“Try to find pictures of yourself on the beach at the age of four or five. As we age, our hair darkens, but if you pick a color that you once were, you know you have the best and most natural color for you.” Goddard-Clark says, as cited by the Mail. Another advantage to this, other than that of literally knocking back a couple of years, is that it will allow the hair to grow beautifully, without having to have it retouched every four weeks or so, since highlights are generally this “kind” with darker roots, stylists also point out.

One thing we must pay proper attention to, should we decide to go for this alternative to look younger, is the experience of the colorist of our choice. We should never trust such a demanding task to a complete stranger, or a stylist whose work we’re not familiar with, since it can not only make us look worse than before, but also damage our hair.
