While the next version of Windows Server, codename Longhorn, is on track to being released by the end of 2007, Microsoft did confirm that it would make available a third beta of the product by that time. The Redmond Company failed to issue an actual release date, but is pointing to the first half of 2007 as for the release of Windows Server Longhorn Beta 3.

"With new features that support enhanced control, protection and flexibility, Windows Server Longhorn will be a great help in meeting the increasing demands of today's business. Organizations that deploy it will have improved productivity and a reliable platform for powering applications, controlling network access, managing workloads and delivering critical services to the infrastructure," reads a press release issued by Microsoft.

The Redmond Company revealed that the Windows Server Longhorn and associated technologies, Internet Information Services (IIS) 7 and Windows PowerShell have already been implemented for testing purposes with the software giant's partners and customers.

"MySpace has also already begun to test production loads on Windows Server Longhorn. We've already seen a significant reduction in CPU usage and an increase in requests per second from the new IIS 7 pipeline," said Allen Huff, vice president of engineering at MySpace.
