The educational institution will purchase hundreds of Surface RT tablets

Microsoft’s Surface RT was often described as a rather disappointing product since it wasn’t capable of running traditional Windows software, but this wasn’t considered to be an inconvenient for the London School of Business and Finance.

The institution has decided to purchase hundreds of Surface RT tablets because it really needed the Office 2013 productivity suite, as every tablet is being shipped with a free license of the RT version of the app.

“We looked across many devices and we needed Office 2013 - which was not available on any other tablet,” CIO Vicente Fraser, chief information officer at London School of Business & Finance, told Computing.

“This has enabled us to give students a device where they can easily edit the documents they need for their course. At the same time, the Surface offered strong Office 365 integration which we use heavily at St Patrick's College.”

The Surface RT is still available for those who’d like to purchase it and not a new Surface 2 or Surface Pro 2 unit, with prices now starting at $299 (€180).
