Developer Grasshopper Manufacture has announced that its hack and slash video game Lollipop Chainsaw passed the one million units sold mark.

Lollipop Chainsaw has players take control of a zombie-fighting cheerleader and is set in a California high school. The game started as a collaboration between game designer Suda 51 and filmmaker James Gunn, and was released in June 2012.

Players guide Juliet Starling, making use of her arsenal of melee attacks and dodging enemy moves, cutting down zombies to earn medals which can be used to purchase new moves and combos and improved stats.

As the game's name suggests, most of the chopping will be performed with a trusty chainsaw, in typical horror flick fashion, and the heroine will collect lollipops which will be used as medikits.

To celebrate the impressive feat, Grasshopper Manufacture is offering the digital download versions of the game at a considerable discount on the Japanese market, for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the zombie-chopping game.

The discounts will kick off on March 20 for the PlayStation 3 version of Lollipop Chainsaw, and on April 1 for the Xbox 360 one, and both offers will be running until April 30.
