Bleeding-edge graphics and ultimate gaming or multimedia capabilities are now far from being the only capabilities that end-users expect in a laptop. Now that technology has evolved, besides simple performance capabilities, companies have started implementing new traits into everyday tech. Some corporations have gone green, others have started using their hardware in scientific venues. Logitech, on the other hand, seems more concerned with the comfort that its technology provides to each of its customers, with the
Lapdesk N700 being only the latest electronic to tackle the consumer desire for cool computing.
The company has already released peripherals that, besides the usual functionality, have LED lights, for an improved product usability in low-lighting conditions, and fans to keep the user's hands cool. The N700, however, is somewhat different. The device is a sleek merger between a laptop speaker, while a fan and a heat shielding design deliver comfortable cooling.
“More and more people around the world are enjoying fantastic entertainment on their laptops — but with mediocre sound and comfort,” Denis Pavillard, Logitech vice president of product marketing for laptop accessories, said. “In fact, according to our research nearly 50 percent of laptop users report being dissatisfied with the sound quality of the built-in speakers. The Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700 helps transform your laptop into a private theater in the cozy confines of your lap.”
Unlike other laptop audio output solutions, the Lapdesk N700 uses two high-definition speakers with 2-inch, high-performance neodymium drivers. The speakers are placed on either side of the laptop itself while the padded base allows for sitting in a comfortable position. The fan built into the Lapdesk doesn't chill the user, but it cools down the laptop itself, while the heat-shielding design keeps the heat away from the consumer's legs and lap.
The product is easy to set up and use, with only one USB connection required. The device requires no drivers or software of any kind even while still boasting volume controls for the speakers and an On/Off switch for the fan.
The Logitech Lapdesk N700 is expected to become available in the U.S. around February, with European markets having to wait till March. The price is estimated at around $79.99.
