One could argue the peripheral is unusual even by the loosest standards

Anyone who thought the G602 Wireless Gaming Mouse was unusual and impressive might just find their standards changed once they take a look at a certain other mouse that Logitech released recently.

Called Ultrathin Touch Mouse, the mouse is precisely what the name suggests: a small, handheld peripheral that doesn't look like a mouse at all.

Sure, it's small and has the shape of an oval, and can be used with one hand easily enough, but it resembles an upside-down phone more than anything else.

Then again, that's expected, given how the normal buttons and scroll wheel are replaced by a touch-sensitive surface.

On that note, the Ultrathin Touch Mouse could be labeled as a mobile, wireless touchpad.

"Our personal technology needs are evolving rapidly, and people expect better design," said Charlotte Johs, Logitech global vice president of brand development and portfolio for PC accessories.

"Whether it's a computer, tablet, smartphone or touch-navigation device, people are looking for thin, modern design that works fluidly. We created the Logitech Ultrathin Touch Mouse to give people an ultra- portable mouse that complements today's MacBook and Ultrabook computers."

The Logitech Ultrathin Touch Mouse can connect wirelessly to laptops, desktops and tablets as well.

In fact, it can be linked to all three at once. A switch can be used to flip between which device to control at any given time.

The smooth surface makes using the mouse particularly comfortable, although it could feel awkward for a while if buyers are used to normal, clicking mice.

That said, the battery inside the mouse should last for a good while, and recharge pretty fast. One minute on the USB should provide one hour of operation.

Logitech Ultrathin Touch Mouse, part number T630, will sell in black and (for Apple Mac) white, starting September (next week/month). The price is of $69.99 / €52.31 - €69.99.
