The new platform looks a lot like Android Honeycomb as they share the same core

A couple of months ago, Logitech promised us that it's working together with Google to bring the second version of the Google TV platform to its Revue set-top box, and it now seems like this update is just a few weeks away.

Initially, Logitech said that the Google TV 2.0 update will go live by the end of the summer, but since then the platform went MIA, with neither Google or the hardware maker saying anything about the state of this OS.

However, it now seems like we are just a few weeks away from the launch of Google TV 2.0 according to the Zatz Not Funny! Website, which has also posted a series of screen captures showing the platform running on the Revue.

From what we can tell so far, Google TV 2.0 is going to function similar to the mobile version of Android, which should definitely ease the transition process for many users already accustomed with the Google mobile OS.

This is not surprising considering that the Google TV 2.0 platform is based on the Honeycomb 3.1 operating system that now features a new user interface optimized for large screen HDTVs.

The Honeycomb origins of Google TV 2.0 also mean that the platform will support the Google Market application store.

The Google TV 2.0 update will be delivered automatically to all the existing devices that use this platform, including the Logitech Revue, once it becomes available and should also make its appearance on a series of new devices developed by other companies.

Let's just hope that these will come at much lower prices that those asked by Logitech for the Revue, which was originally retailed for $249 (but now retails for $99 due to low demand).

This is not the first time that Google TV 2.0 has been shown running on Logitech's set-top-box as in August a hacker managed to find a way to install a beta version of the platform on the Revue.
