Logitech announced the release of another piece of hardware designed for gamers as an extension of the G family of computer gaming peripherals, the Logitech G51 Surround Sound Speaker System. This new sound system is composed of a 5.1 speaker setup that features a 360 degrees surround sound system for the ultimate audio gaming experience.

The Logitech G51 Surround Sound Speaker System offers the best of the audio cutting edge technology, letting gamers enjoy the benefits of a 360-degree surround sound as the proprietary dual Matrix technology can recreate a 5.1 surround-sound experience even from the commonly found two channel audio output of the cheaper audio systems, according to the manufacturing company. "The G51 delivers an immersive surround-sound experience, but it goes far beyond that for gamers," said Jef Holove, general manager and vice president of Logitech's audio business who was cited in the company's press release concerning the launch of the G51 sound system. "Surround sound is a competitive advantage in true 5.1 games, plus the system also offers two Matrix surround modes for classic stereo games or music. For online players, the G51 features headphone and microphone jacks with independent mute controls. And, the system was designed to allow modders to easily customize the satellite speakers with their favorite game art or to match their gear. In short, the G51 is authentic gaming equipment."

Even if most games and digitally encoded music files are only using the two channel sound system standard, the G51 because of its Matrix technology is able to split the sound signal into six separate channels without degrading the output quality. For the end users, this simply means that even if the original sound source is not coded for a multi speaker setup, it may be converted on the fly to that format by the G51 sound system. The Matrix technology offers two distinctive modes for gaming and music. The gaming sound mode boosts the level of rear speakers and subwoofer in order to offer a more realistic gaming experience, while the music mode delivers a more natural sound experience through all five satellite speakers. The G51 surround sound system from Logitech come with no less than 155 watts of power and it also features the Frequency Directed Dual Driver (FDD2 for short) technology that provides an intense and uniform sound from everywhere in the room.

The Logitech G51 Surround Sound Speaker System is expected out in October this year and it will feature a price tag of almost $200 in the United States. As several research studies showed that gamers often enjoy using headphones and microphones, the G51 comes with a central control module that include audio in and out connection jacks. Apart from the jacks, the control pod comes with mute controls, independent volume control and LED indicators.
