Japanese company Logitec is an expert in data storage, and the latest product launched only comes to confirm its status. The new data unit is an impressive 8-bay device able to hold eight 3.5” HDDs, each having a maximum capacity of 3 TB.

The new storage unit is officially called LHR-8BNEU3 in its RAID-less version and the RAID-enabled model is called LHR-8BREU3.

On the external connectivity side, both units are the same and come fitted with a very fast USB 3.0 port or a very useful eSATA connector that simply transforms them into an external hard drive accessible through the same interface as the internal drives.

The cooling is handled by two fans with an 80-millimeter diameter, that are temperature-controlled to increase their lifespan and lower the operating noise.

The maximum storage capacity supported by the new data storage enclosures from Logitec is an impressive 24 TB.

Such an enclosure could be actually shared by two or three different computers through independent connections.

One system would connect through the USB 3.0 port and enjoy a maximum transfer rate of over 600 MB/s, and the other could use the eSATA connector and enjoy the absolute fastest transfer rate available on the new devices.

There is also support for a third direct connection through the modest USB 2.0 BUS.

The RAID model supports JBOD, JBOD × 2, RAID0, RAID0 × 2, RAID5 × 2, RAID50 and RAID10 × 2 modes and can also use a hot spare drive that will be automatically used when one of the drives in a RAID matrix fails.

The front panel of the two units is slightly different, but the rest of the functional design is the same.

The power supply is built-in. It uses Japan-made capacitors and is perfectly compliant with the RoHS directive of the European Union.

I don't consider it to be cheap :)

On the other hand, considering how NAS units are always quite expensive, these offer great value for the money, considering that they can house eight 3.5" HDDs.

Still, keep in mind that these are not TRUE NAS units as they don't come with any LAN port.

Even for basic storage, they are very cheap, since you are buying 24 TB at 400 euro...Here in Ro,you pay roughly 80 Euros per Tb(according to pcgarage).

this is essentially a mediocre DAS unit. at least it's got both usb and esata, which is cool

Make sure you don't misunderstand what the LHR-8BNEU3 enclosure is. It is just that, an enclosure ABLE to house the HDDs and it doesn't come with any HDD inside.
