Danish indie game makers Logic Artists have announced the next installment in their historical turn-based tactical role-playing game series, Expeditions: Viking.

The game will represent the follow-up to the popular Expeditions: Conquistador, offering players the chance to become the leaders of a clan of viking warriors, charged with elevating their status by adventuring in faraway lands, and with the protection of the clan from foreign and domestic forces.

The historically themed title will be set in the Viking Age, following a humble clan of farmers and warriors venturing into unknown lands to the west, and raid and trade with the local population.

The game will build on the original framework, while also taking into account the valuable fan feedback the team has received since Conquistador's release in 2013.

As such, the sequel will offer gamers the opportunity to upgrade their village between raids. Travel and combat will exist on the same layer of the map, with a smooth transition between the two. Players will be able to see their character before their eyes, and not only in interactions with other characters.

A bigger and better historically themed experience

The devs also intend to improve the base formula, with new combat abilities, a lot more player choice, and extended camping and wilderness survival features.

Gamers will be able to choose their own path, and become peaceful and benevolent traders (which the actual Vikings eventually did, after realizing it was more advantageous than simply raiding) or steamroll over any opposition in their quest for treasure and fame.

Logic Artists is currently also working on Clandestine, an interesting asymmetrical cooperative experience designed to be played by two people: one assumes control of a stealthy spy, while the other becomes a hacker that provides assistance to the agent on the ground.
