Not much of a surprise considering Yahoo's recent announcement that it will now enable users to sign up with a Google or Facebook account, but Flickr is now rolling out support for Facebook account registrations. Flickr was actually the first Yahoo product to support registrations with third-party accounts when it introduced support for Google IDs a few months ago.

"Last October, we introduced the option to create an account on Flickr using a Google ID in an effort to make it even easier for users to join Flickr and share their photos with the people who matter to them," Flickr's Denise Leung explains.

"We launched with Google as our first partner and promised even more improvements to come. Today, we’d like to welcome our newest partner and are pleased to announce that you can now also log-in to Flickr with your Facebook account!," Denise Leung she announced.

Essentially, when logging into Flickr, you'll have the option of choosing a Google or Facebook account rather than use your Yahoo credentials. This makes it easier for new users to sing up since they don't have to go through the registration process.

However, until now, it meant this was only useful for new users or if you wanted to create a new Flickr account. But the team is now expanding the feature to allow existing users to link their Flickr account to Google or Facebook credentials.

This will enable them to log in with the credentials they want into their old accounts. This option could prove a lot more useful. Many users may have a Flickr account, and a Yahoo ID to go with it, but may not use other Yahoo services.

Now, they can simply stay logged into the account they use the most, on Google or Facebook, and be logged into Flickr as well. Flickr is again serving as a test bed for new functionality. It was the first Yahoo product to support outside registrations and it is now the first to enable users to link their existing accounts to other credentials.
