iPhone owners who usually don't like to eat at home have now a new app that can help them in finding the way to a good restaurant. Named LocalEats and developed by Magellan Press, Inc., the application relies on the GPS capabilities of Apple's handset in order to lead hungry people to a restaurant of their choice in 50 of US' most important cities.
The new app is based on info from the
Where the Locals Eat website and will allow users to find places to eat "with just a few touches". Moreover, there are detailed descriptions as well as reviews for lots of restaurants. Also, reservations can be made if you visit the restaurants' websites provided by LocalEats.
Talking about the new iPhone application, Bill King, publisher and founder of Magellan Press, said, "LocalEats marries food and culture with technology. LocalEats is a simple and intuitive guide - not an overwhelming list - that can help you discover true and authentic local restaurants. We'll take you to real dry rub barbecue in Memphis, show you the best seafood in San Francisco, and lead you to the greatest deep-dish pizza in Chicago. From Los Angeles to New York, LocalEats gives a thoughtful snapshot of a city's culinary landscape that is accessible to casual diners and serious foodies alike".
The full list of cities that LocalEats currently focuses on includes: Atlanta, Austin, Boston, Buffalo, Baltimore, Birmingham, Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Columbus, Charlotte, Dallas, Detroit, Denver, Fort Worth, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Honolulu, Kansas City, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Louisville, Miami, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Memphis, Milwaukee, New York, New Orleans, Nashville, Orlando, Oakland, Oklahoma City, Portland, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Rochester, Raleigh-Durham, Seattle, San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Sacramento, San Antonio, San Diego, San Jose, St. Louis, Tampa Bay and, of course, Washington D.C.
LocalEats can be bought directly from your iPhone, via the App Store, for only $0.99. Needless to say, the application only works with the new iPhone 3G, since the first generation one doesn't feature GPS capabilities.
