14 DAY TRIAL // It seems that this year Liza Minnelli only made it in the news for sad things. Try as she might, she simply could not catch a break, poor thing. This time, it's more serious than before, as Minnelli is reported to have seriously injured her back in the freak accident.
Page Six reports that Liza, a star of the silver screen by any standard, has managed to severely injure her back when she was trying to pick up her dog. While that doesn't normally happen, Liza has been recently hit with a streak of bad luck.
First, Liza didn't make it in the Oscar selfie
If you remember from earlier this year, Liza also unsuccessfully tried to make it into that Ellen DeGeneres Oscar selfie, you know, like the most famous photo on the internet at the moment. Don't remember seeing her in the photo? Exactly. That's because Liza didn't get to show her face in the actual photo.
A shot taken from behind shows Liza, who is not the tallest of actresses in Hollywood, trying to peek over the shoulders of Brad Pitt just to get into the photo. Sadly, she failed miserably.
Liza injures her back, needs surgery, couldn't make it to Joan Rivers' funeral
And now this, a spine injury that's put her out of action and that's going to require her to undergo surgery. The accident happened as the 68-year-old tried to pick up one of her dogs as they were coming home from her walk. As she was picking up one dog, another tripped her and caused her to fall, injuring her spine.
“I was picking up my dogs and they jumped,” Liza explained. “And I got twisted and fell. I thought it’s nothing. But it wasn’t nothing. It became something. The operation’s next week. After an X-ray, seems I busted it and have to have it fused.”
What's probably worse, well, not worse, because there are few things worse than a spinal injury, but equally bad, is the fact that this injury has kept Liza from attending the funeral of friend Joan Rivers. She simply couldn't attend because she was stuck in a wheel chair.
“I desperately wanted to [go] because I loved her - but I couldn’t go because I can’t walk. I’m in bed. Going in for surgery,” Liza pinned, with a sigh of regret into her voice. Even without her, the funeral was a star-studded affair, as numerous other celebrities showed up to pay their respects to the late comedienne whom everyone deems a trailblazer.
This isn't the first time Liza has managed to injure her back either. A few years back, she had a similar accident and she was forced to use a wheelchair so that she could get around. She eventually got better, but it seems that this time, she's going to need surgery to get her back into shape.
