Besides the divorce suit, the two former spouses, Liza Minnelli and David Gest are also engaged in a bitter legal struggle, asking damages for up to £10 million. The less famous member of the couple, Gest, filed a suit against the entertainer, saying that she beat him senseless during a drunken rage.
The estranged hubby claims in an 11-page document that, while heavily intoxicated, Liza threw a lamp at him and then hit him repeatedly over the face, head and torso with her mighty fists. The 'victim' was left with 'throbbing pain, severe headaches, vertigo, nausea, hypertension, scalp tenderness and insomnia' after the assault.
Yesterday, a New York judge ruled out that the cause for Gest's frequent headaches is not the alleged beatings he got from his wife, but from a herpes virus. At least, that's what Liza's attorney claimed and testified, a thing that David's lawyer could not prove as being untrue. Consequently, the judge dismissed the case and refused Gest's claim to £10 million in damages.
On the other hand, the famous singer and actress is not sitting all this time with her arms crossed. She filed a civil counter-suit against her former husband, alleging he alienated people in showbiz, costing her numerous working contracts.
Nevertheless, Liza cannot rest assured that the entire ordeal is over: David's attorney vowed to appeal the judge's decision. So, it seems that things are about to get even more complicated than they have been until now...
