The pen-shaped 3D printer is now up for crowd-funding

When the 3Doodler from Wobble Works scored on Kickstarter, it was clear that 3D printing wasn't something exclusive to large and unruly, generally box-shaped contraptions. Now, though, a more elegant 3D printing pen is coming.

We actually spotted it back in early April. Called Lix 3D printing pen, the device is about as big and as easy to use as a fountain pen.

By comparison, the 3Doodler is large and thick, pretty hard to hold in your hand. Although, granted, the plastic “sticks” it creates, both on a surface and in three dimensions, are a bit thicker.

Then again, you can just go a bit lower with the Lix and reach the same thickness if you're careful and steady-handed enough.

Last month, the Lix was just a concept though. Now, it has been put up on Kickstarter, where the folks who invented it hope to raise at least £30,000 / $50,600 / €36,400.

Or at least they hoped to raise that much. Even though there are still 28 days to go, the funding goal has already been exceeded by a factor of almost 10. You can pledge £82 / $138 / €100 to get your own from the early batches. The retail price will be higher than that when sales begin in December.
