There's a new beauty trend online that's getting increasingly more media attention, which has teen girls style themselves like living dolls, inspired by the looks of their favorite anime characters. Venus Palermo is one of them.

She is known online as Venus Angelic, has almost 80 videos / tutorials available, and has already ignited a heated debate about whether what she's doing could potentially rob herself and other children of their childhood.

She and her mother, Margaret Palermo, were invited on ITV's Daybreak to talk about her reasons for styling herself this way and, most importantly, what she'd tell her detractors.

You can see the video of the interview below.

As it turns out, one of the detractors is the female interviewer herself, who keeps telling the 15-year-old Venus that what she's doing is not “normal” and that she'd be “horrified” if her daughter ever came home looking this way.

Venus' mother, though, believes her girl is doing nothing wrong but simply expressing herself creatively through her out of the ordinary look.

“I would be horrified if she came home pregnant, I am not horrified if she is innocent and good girl who likes cute clothes and frills and ribbons,” Ms. Palermo says.

“I am absolutely fine with that, her face is already doll-like and if she likes the style I am fine with it, I would be more worried if she came home drunk or smoked,” adds the teen's mother.

Venus agrees, in that she's always been like that, fascinated with doll-like items and eager to recreate the look.

Now, thanks to the Internet, she can even reach out to others and help them get the unique look.

“I was always like this, i liked to dress in frilly dresses and tie my hair in pigtails, then I discovered how and what I really want to be as a teenager. A lot of people like the look and I want to help them achieve it,” Venus says.
