LiveQuartz 1.8 (Free Image Editor) Adds Multi-Touch Support

- Mac OS X Leopard users can now pinch, swipe and rotate their layers in a jiffy

By: Filip Truta, Apple News Editor

More software is recently adding multi-touch support for Apple's line of notebooks. This time, developer Romain Piveteau has commanded our attention with the latest version of its free photo retouching app for Mac OS X Leopard users, LiveQuartz 1.8. Aside the just-mentioned added feature, version 1.8 sports a
new free line drawing tool, a new standard Leopard filter picker with bookmarks and Global image resize.

LiveQuartz 1.8 is the latest update to the free graphics retouching application designed by Romain Piveteau for Mac OS X Leopard users. Multi-touch support for the trackpads found on Apple's MacBook Pro and MacBook Air includes 'Swipe' for tools and layer control, 'Pinch & Expand' for magnification and layer zoom transformation and 'Rotation' for (what else) layer rotation.

LiveQuartz is a very useful layer management solution. With its layers list, Leopard users can add, remove, drag, drop, re-order and merge layers in a very intuitive and non-destructive way.

Other LiveQuartz 1.8 highlights include: new free line drawing tool (click on the line tool sub-menu to choose it); new standard Leopard filter picker with bookmarks ("Collections"); the action of the background eraser can be restricted by a selection; more logical merging of layers : now, only selected layers are merged; global image resize (finally...!); new tool settings user interface (only tools available for the current tool are displayed); new line width setting for drawing tool; Faster QuickLook plug-in (RHIF format).

Also, Romain Piveteau has confirmed that PDFs, text and drawing layers are now correctly rendered as long as we do not alter their content or use filters on them. A new "Take a picture" menu to use the standard picture taker of Leopard has also been added with version 1.8 of LiveQuartz.

For the geek who wants see the full changelog, it is available right here. In case bug fixes, memory usage optimizations and launch times is what you are hoping to see, LiveQuartz version 1.8 has them all. Click HERE to download your own free copy.
