TokBox is one of the services which aim to become famous but instead of a brilliant idea, I'm not sure if it has all it takes to challenge the web rivals. Generally, TokBox is a live video chatting technology which enables
the registered members to communicate on the web using their camera and microphone without installing any piece of software on their computers.
But TokBox has some interesting plans and the YouTube founders are supporting them: the service wants to become for video chatting what YouTube means for online video sharing as TheStar.com reports. Jawed Karim, one of the YouTube co-founders who abandoned the Google video sharing service, confirmed that he will invest in TokBox. Moreover, Sequoia Capital, the firm which sold YouTube to Google mentioned that no less than $4 million will be redirected to TokBox.
"Part of the beauty of YouTube is that we all have browsers and we are all on the Internet, so you can click on a link and video will start to play. TokBox offers the same easy solution inside the browser," said for TheStar.com Roelof Botha, another YouTube investor who works for Sequoia.
The service is available for free and all the users who want to communicate on the web have to register for an account. The entire registration process takes only a few seconds so it's OK to create an account. Personally, I tested the solution and it worked pretty nice so I think you should really try it as it has all the chances to replace your traditional downloadable video chatting solution.
"Video communication has never really taken off, despite the fact that people talk about it as a part of the future. We want to make it very easy," said Serge Faguet, TokBox chief executive officer, for the same source mentioned above.
