A new build of Live Mesh has become available as of September 4, 2008. The service update taking Live Mesh to version 0.9.3103.14 is designed to deliver a resolve for a synchronization problem highlighted on September 3. One day before offering the update, Microsoft warned participants in the Technology Preview Program of Live Mesh not to modify folder synchronization settings or to delete folders from the mesh, because such an action would impact the synchronizing across all meshed devices. As the update became available, the Redmond company indicated that there are upgrading issues on Windows Vista Service Pack 1 clients because of the user Account Control.

"While we no longer require that UAC be enabled when running Live Mesh on Vista SP1, if you initially installed Live Mesh with UAC enabled, and then disabled it, you might have some issues upgrading," noted a member of the Live Mesh team. Still, the new update, following the previous refresh in just a week is absolutely necessary in order to fix the synchronization problems.

"The new build contains a crucial Live Mesh folder synchronization fix. By default your Live Mesh software will automatically update itself within 24 hours of the new build being posted, but you can always right-click the Notifier icon in the system tray and choose to force an immediate update," the Live Mesh team representative added.

Following the implementation of the latest update, Live Mesh testers should have no more problems when it comes down to synchronizing their folders across all the devices connected, independently of what actions are taken on the items in the mesh. As Live Mesh continues to be available to a limited number of testers as a Technology Preview Program, problems are inherent. Microsoft's fast reaction time and frequent updates indicate the strong focus within the company on this project and the consistent resources poured into it.

"If any of your Live Mesh folders have been affected by this issue, please use the following steps to re-establish stable sync relationships for those folders: update the Live Mesh software on all of your devices to the newest version. If any affected folders are currently set to synchronize with your mesh, please stop those folders from synchronizing on each of your devices. Right-click on the folder and select Live Mesh Options, then click Change Sync Settings. For each device, under Synchronize files, select Never with this device. Once you have removed the affected folders from your mesh, you can then add them back in again by right-clicking the folder and selecting Add folder to your Live Mesh," the Live Mesh member explained.
