Live Mesh has only a few days left to live. Come March 31st, Microsoft will pull the plug on Live Mesh, a Cloud synchronization service which never managed to evolve past the Beta development milestone.

Later this week, when the Beta program is scheduled to end, Live Mesh will stop working altogether.

The software giant continues to send emails to early adopters that have been testing Live Mesh warning them of the imminent death of the service.

“After March 31, you won't be able to access any files stored online in your Live Desktop or connect to your PCs remotely using the Live Mesh software,” the company said.

“Microsoft will not be able to help you retrieve any files you have stored online after this date. Your files will also stop syncing between your computers and your Live Mesh online storage.”

This is of course not the first message that the software giant sends Beta testers that took Live Mesh out for a spin.

And fact is that Live Mesh has been comatose for years now, kept barely alive, while it was obvious that all development efforts had stopped.

Live Mesh was developed under Ray Ozzie, Microsoft’s Chief Software Architect, a title he inherited from Bill Gates. December 31st, 2010 was Ozzie’s last day at Microsoft.

The Redmond company is telling Live Mesh Beta testers that they need to move to Windows Live Mesh, the successor of Windows Live Sync, a service designed as somewhat of a blend between Live Mesh and Sync.

“To prevent loss of any of your files, please sync all files from your Live Desktop so that you have them on your computer when the Live Mesh beta service is shutdown. To do this, follow these steps:

On your Live Desktop, right-click any Live Mesh folders not yet synced with your computer, and then click Sync with this computer. Make sure all the folders on your Live Desktop have desktop shortcuts.

Select where you want each folder to sync, and then click OK. If a folder has a lot of files, this might take a while. Open each folder and make sure all the files are downloaded,” Microsoft stated.
