Rumors are untrue

LittleBigPlanet is finally getting on its way, now that the European release of the game is ongoing, following the recall prompted by Qu'ran verses played over the music it featured. North America already has access to the game and its servers, which were down following serious overload in the first days, as they are being worked on by Sony in order to be able to allow players to share levels.

Players have quickly learned how to use the level editor, the most important and powerful element of the game, and some of them are clamoring for more possibilities. Alex Evans, the co founder of Media Molecule and one of the driving forces behind the game, has recently said at the Game City event in Nottigham that the title might be soon getting a new image importing tool that would allow people to get any image they want and put it in their levels. It seems that such a tool was originally intended to be in the game on launch date but there was no time to put it together.

At the moment, players are using the PlayStation Eye camera to take pictures of objects in order to put them in LittleBigPLanet, but a proper tool would mean that high resolution images will be usable, perhaps with a limit related to their size.

Sadly, Sam_Protagonist, the LittleBigPlanet community manager that is active on the PlayStation Forums, has posted and denied that any such tool was under development. He said that “Image importing is very much technically viable which may be what Alex is referring to. However there are currently no plans to introduce it for a variety of reasons”. One of the reasons might be possible copyright infringement.
