The PlayStation Portable is quite a popular piece of hardware these days as many people want to have a multimedia device capable of storing all of their favorite content and even support video games on the go.
Part of the new strategy in order to support the PSP even more is Sony's attempt to bring almost all of the franchises present on the PS3 onto the handheld console. We've already seen Resistance: Retribution and are getting ready for titles like Gran Turismo or MotorStorm to reach it, but one of the most interesting will be
LittleBigPlanet.
The game will offer a lot of variety by giving users access to almost all of the tools from the full-fledged game, but, in order to make room for them, a few features were dropped from the final version. One such component is the multiplayer mode, according to Sony's Mark Green.
“The one thing we've lost is multiplayer,” Green said. “You've got full physics systems, you got full create mode, you've got all the aspects of LittleBigPlanet – you can upload, download, ad-hoc share with people – but we haven't got multiplayer.”
“It's a trade-off,” he continued. “The system is physically capable of doing multiplayer, but perhaps not with the full physics system. On the technical side of things you lose a third of the processing power or a third of the system memory just to do multiplayer at all. With those limitations we couldn't achieve it.”
While the PSP is certainly a capable platform, fact highlighted by the many high-quality titles that have already arrived on it, it is still a device made with portability in mind. Hopefully the team at Media Molecule and Sony will manage to deliver the best LBP experience on the PSP and PSP Go.
