Sony definitely had a tough time with exclusive games coming to its PlayStation 3 console as there haven't been a lot of titles made only for its big black box, which coincidently became a lot slimmer yesterday thanks to the announcement of the PS3 Slim.
But one of its most interesting exclusives was LittleBigPlanet, coming from UK-based studio Media Molecule. The unique platform offered players a huge number of customization options and almost all of the tools that the developers used when creating the levels for the game. Thus, a large amount of
user-generated content appeared and was shared by people over the PlayStation Network.
The team at Media Molecule didn't sit idly and released a lot of downloadable content for the game, thus making the selection of new adventures even bigger. The title also received multiple awards, including Game of the Year ones from prestigious committees like the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences or BAFTA.
That is why, on September 8, Sony will release a Game of the Year edition of LittleBigPlanet, which will include a variety of content that was offered after the release of the original title at the end of last year. Besides the normal game, seven free downloadable content packs will be included in the release and, as a special treat, limited editions of the game will include vouchers for access to the upcoming
ModNation Racers Online Beta stage.
“LittleBigPlanet has become a principal franchise for the PlayStation brand and Game of the Year edition is a celebration of the overwhelming support we have received for the ‘Play, Create, and Share’ movement since the launch of this title last October,” said Scott A. Steinberg, vice president, Product Marketing, SCEA. “The inclusion of these original levels and bonus content will give new players significant added value and a taste of the Share experience from the best creators all around the globe.
LittleBigPlanet Game of the Year edition will include 18 exclusive levels created by fans from around the globe, who were picked by the development team from Media Molecule in order to become collaborators and design some exclusive adventures for SackBoy in the special edition.
Besides these special levels, seven costume and level packs will be included free of charge, including the
Metal Gear Solid-themed one, the Monsters one and costumes from the History and Animals packs, all of which can be acquired from the PlayStation Store for a price.
If you still haven't picked up LittleBigPlanet, then this special edition is definitely for you. The amount of user-generated content available for free is huge and, as the team from Media Molecule will continue to support it, $60 is quite an investment.
