The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences has announced a full list of nominees for the Annual Interactive Achievement Awards, held since 1998. The nominations and the awards are decided by people from the gaming industry, which means that they tend to show how the industry itself sees the gaming scene and which trends will be remembered over the years. Past winners of the Game of the Year award from the AIAS are Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the original Gears of War and God of War.

This year’s awards will be presented on February 19 at the Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain Summit in Las Vegas. Here are some of the nominations for Overall Game of the Year: Fallout 3 from Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios; Grand Theft Auto IV from Rockstar Games and Rockstar North; Left 4 Dead from Valve Software; LittleBigPlanet from Sony Computer Entertainment America and Media Molecule; Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots from Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. and Kojima Productions.

LittleBigPlanet has got the most nominations, 12 of them, including Console Game of the Year, Family Game of the Year, Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction, Outstanding Achievement in Visual Engineering and Outstanding Character Performance.

Widely talked about games, like Gears of War 2, Fallout 3 or Metal Gear Solid 4, are also nominated for a lot of categories. A full list of the categories and nominations can be found on the official site of the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences.

Joseph Olin, who is the president of AIAS, stated that “This was an exciting year for games.
