The PlayStation 3 has just turned two years old, celebrating the first launch of Sony's console in Japan, which took place in the middle of November. A lot has happened these past two years, and although the Japanese company hoped that the PS3 would dominate the market, like its predecessor, the PS2, such a thing didn't happen, as the black console is still fighting a hard war with the Xbox 360.

To celebrate this event, one of top titles for the console this holiday season, LittleBigPlanet, will hold a contest in which users will have to create a special level in honor of the PS3's birthday. The hit puzzle platformer wants to relaunch the LBP Challenges, which will be, from now on, special contests that offer quite exclusive prizes to those who have worked the hardest and created the best levels in LBP.

This particular challenge began yesterday and it will continue until December 9, with contestants being able to put their creative and game design skills to the test for a very interesting prize, the LBP Challenge Crown, which will rest on their custom SackBoy or SackGirl creation. As an important remark, this Challenge is open only to US users who own a copy of LBP, meaning that people outside of North America won't be able to get their hands on the exciting prize.

Here are the steps you need to take in order to join this challenge, as found on the LBP News website:

"1. Create an original LittleBigPlanet level ("Level") celebrating the PLAYSTATION 3 second anniversary.   2. You must name your Level using this format. "LBC1-<YourLevelNameHere>".   3. Publish your Level to the LittleBigPlanet online server.   4. Send an e-mail submission to [email protected]. Please use your level name (LBC-1<YourLevelNameHere>) in the subject line. Include your PlayStation Network ID along with the name of your Level in your e-mail submission. (LBC1-YourLevelNameHere).  5. You may publish your Level at any time up until 11:59am PST December 9, 2008 when the contest closes.  6. Your Level will be judged by the LittleBigPlanet Community. Community members will be able to vote on multiple Levels by adding a "Heart" to each one they like. They may only add one Heart to any particular Level. The top five qualifying Levels will be selected as the winners."

Also, contestants can promote their level on the official LBP forums where it can attract a lot more users to vote for it. All in all, a very interesting challenge, and it’s safe to say that people will get their creative juices flowing for a chance to win the exclusive crown.
