Sony has confirmed that today, December 18, it's going to release the Cross-Controller DLC pack for LittleBigPlanet 2, which allows those who have both a PlayStation 3 and a PlayStation Vita to use the handheld console while playing the PS3 game.

The Nintendo Wii U came out last month and allowed owners to interact with its games through the special GamePad.

Sony, however, is adamant that the same effect can be achieved by combining the PlayStation 3 with the PlayStation Vita and, in order to show this off, it's going to release a special DLC for LittleBigPlanet 2 later today, December 18.

The add-on is called the Cross-Controller pack and is geared towards taking advantage of the Vita and its touchscreen during actual gameplay.

"Cross-Controller lets you to use PS Vita as a controller for PlayStation 3, allowing the use of PS Vita-only features, like front and rear touch, in PlayStation 3 games. More importantly, it provides a whole second screen where action can take place! This allows for an unimaginable number of new ways to play, some of which you’ll experience with the LittleBigPlanet 2 Cross-Controller Pack," Sony said on the PS blog.

"In the LittleBigPlanet 2: Cross-Controller Pack, Sackboy joins up with a group of lovable Space Pirates as they race to find a valuable treasure long thought lost to the Cosmos. On their adventure they’ll encounter new obstacles that can only be overcome with the help of PS Vita’s unique features."

Besides the actual campaign included in the add-on, the Cross-Controller pack also brings a wide variety of tools that lets actual LittleBigPlanet 2 players create their own levels that can be completed by using a Vita.

The LittleBigPlanet 2: Cross-Controller Pack is out today, December 18, on the PlayStation Network, for $4.99 and is expected to hit the European PSN tomorrow, December 19, for €4.99.
