If you’ve previously read about Plextor’s new 18X DVD unit claiming to be the fastest on earth when it comes to writing DVDs, you’d better take a look at this. It
will surely make your day, especially if your room is crowded with hundreds of DVDs.

Lite-On will probably hold on to the king’s seat for a while more. At least when talking about DVD-Writing capabilities since they’ve just presented their new 20X Super AllWrite LH-20A1P. With DVD-Writing capabilities upped to 20X, the drive completes a 4.7GB disk in almost 5 minutes, making it the fastest drive available right now. The write speed of 20X comes only when the writing strategy decides that the disk you’re using can be written at this speed.

Yep, that means you don’t exactly need 20X capable media, just a very good 16X one. Mmm… I’m already enjoying this. Being an “Allwrite” product, it also spots DVD-Ram support and can write it at up to 12X speed. DVD+/-RW goes as fast as 8/6X while DVD+/-DL can be written at speeds up to 8X depending on the media. CDs can be written at a maximum of 48X (32X for RW disks).

As for reading, it’s still a 16/48X drive. We hoped it would also prove faster in reading DVDs but I guess the line will remain at 22MB/s for now. The drive measures 145(W) x 41.3(H) x 170(D) mm and weighs 900grams. Pricing is unknown, as for the availability, you’ll probably find it in the next few days.
