M83 and Joseph Trapanese have teamed up to work on the soundtrack for “Oblivion,” the Joseph Kosinski-directed, post-apocalyptic film with Tom Cruise as lead.

Below, embedded at the end of this post is the first track from the OST released officially: it’s called “StarWaves” and it’s just as sweeping, heartbreaking and superb as you’d expect from M83 (if you’re familiar with their work, that is).

“Oblivion” sees Tom Cruise play a drone repair man who visits a now-deserted Earth regularly on repair missions. On one of them, he stumbles on a truth his superiors would have rather he never found out.

The film also stars Andrea Riseborough, Olga Kurylenko, Melissa Leo and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and opens on April 19.

Kosinski’s previous film was “TRON: Legacy” so at least we know we’re in for spectacular visuals.
