We have Sarah 'Fergie' Ferguson: killer body, successful solo career and lots of fame for being the female lead in the wonder band that is the Black Eyes Peas. The least you would expect from her would be to deliver breathtaking live performances, right? Well, maybe it's time we reconsidered that because, seeing that Fergie is a
repeat offender in terms of singing live (or failing to do so, to be more precise), she might as well stick to lip-synching. It would definitely make us still love her songs.
After 'Fergalicious', the bombshell released yet another single about... well, herself. 'Glamorous' brings nothing new for us, since it dwells on being famous, rich and beautiful and still down to earth. As if Jennifer Lopez's 'Jenny From the Block' weren't enough, Fergie also chose to sing her own praise in 'Glamorous' and with great success too: her track went straight to number one in the singles' chart this week.
But glamour is not all that Fergie is about and, if you have enough patience to watch the clip below, you will see that she's also about singing live like a rookie. I have said this before and I will say it again: Fergie does have a pretty good voice or, at least, has more talent than many other pop stars. Unfortunately, singing live is not her thing and she proved it once more on UK's 'PopWorld'.
The last time that Fergie totally killed a song (in the negative sense of the word) was during a performance at the
Billboard Music Awards. Her recent rendering of 'Glamorous' was different from the other one only because, this time, she did manage to stick to the dance routine. The rest was just as crappy and embarrassing as back in December.
I know (just like everybody else) that it's pretty difficult for a performer to dance and sing live at the same time. But then again, these people go up on the stage knowing that they have to do both and they get s**tloads of money for that. Wouldn't it be fair to us, the public, if we got a great performance in return for the money we pay? Just asking, I don't know...
So, Fergie got up on the stage and started doing her annoying spelling thing ('G, L, A, M, O, R, O, U, S yeah'). The woman rapped (even if she doesn't know zilch about it), danced and shook her golden-wrapped body. Then, she got tired - not that this was something to be seen on her face or anything but her voice just broke down. She sat down, whispered some lyrics and then tried to sing again. If only that would've worked! Her voice broke again and she could be heard breathing heavily into the mike. The end of the song, for that matter, was the only thing that she did right. Oh, and the dance routine.
This would be pardonable if Fergie weren't Fergie, the superstar that she is, but a rookie, with no live experience whatsoever. She should have known better than this. As I said, she should've stuck to lip-synching. And quit the rapping. If it didn't kill Britney or Ashley Simpson, it could have worked for her too.
