You know that Hollywood is running out of ideas for movies when they start considering kids shows as subjects for full feature films. The latest adage to the franchise is the Haim Saban-created show “Power Rangers” that originally debuted in 1993.

The Wrap is reporting that Lionsgate is partnering up with Saban in order to bring the show to its former glory, by turning it into a live action show.

For those too young or too weak to remember what the show was about, here's a brief explanation: a group of five high school students with serious martial arts skills gain access to huge dinosaur-inspired robots that have the ability to morph into a larger, more powerful humanoid-shaped robot to battle giant monsters bent on destroying the world.

The show was very popular among kinds in the ‘90s, spawning many similar TV productions which focused in various ways on the idea of teens controlling giant morphing robots. The studio bosses must be banking on that popularity to bring the movie adaptation to the big screen with success.

Saban seems very excited about the project, “Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level. They have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from ‘The Hunger Games’ to ‘Twilight’ and ‘Divergent.’”

“In partnership with the Lionsgate team, we're confident that we will capture the world of the Power Rangers and translate it into a unique and memorable motion picture phenomenon with a legacy all its own,” he goes on to say.
