Limetorrents.com is close to being off the hook for hosting copies of the movie

It’s already known that “The Expendables 3” didn’t really do well in the Box Office, and most of that was the fault of the famous leak that reached the internet weeks before the film even made it to the cinemas.

Now, Lionsgate, which has been suing sites left and right, is looking to settle one of the lawsuits it is involved in.

As we reported a few weeks back, Lionsgate was suing the operators of six websites that didn’t comply with the DMCA notices sent out by the movie studio. Out of the entire list, only one was actually a torrent site, namely Limetorrents.com, while the others are mere file storage services, such as Hukfile.eu, Played.to and Dotsemper.com.

Hulkfile decided to shut down its operations following a preliminary injunction, and Swankshare followed in the same path. LimeTorrents is still online, but that’s only because all copies of “The Expendables” have been taken down. TorrentFreak reports that even the trailers of the film were taken down after the operator installed a filter blocking everything related to the franchise, hoping to go back under the radar.

No such luck, however, as it looks like Lionsgate is not even considering leaving things as they are. Instead, the movie studio wants to receive a hefty compensation from LimeTorrents if is to forget about the lawsuit.

“As you know the court has entered a preliminary injunction, and the lawsuit is going to continue unless we can reach a settlement. I think it would be helpful to set up a time to talk by phone,” reads a letter sent by Lionsgate’s lawyers.

It remains to be seen whether Lionsgate wants money or more information about the people who downloaded the movie via the site, which would help the movie studio follow through on countless other lawsuits with the pirates.

As you may remember, back in July, a DVD screener copy landed on the Internet and quickly spread like wildfire. Over a million copies were downloaded in just a few days, much to the despair of the film makers.

There was hope, however, that people were just looking for a taste of what the film has to offer, but things didn’t go as planned. In fact, during the opening weekend, “The Expendables” managed to earn $16 million, which makes it possible to say it’s a total flop.

There’s hope that there will be more cash coming in in the weeks to come, especially as the movie starts landing in theaters all over the world, but they’re not very high.
