Apple announced yesterday (February 12) that movies from Lionsgate have become available for purchase in the iTunes online store, at www.itunes.com. Movies downloaded from the iTunes Store can be viewed on various devices such as the computer, Apple TV or 5th generation iPods. They are generally priced at $9.99 and their quality is comparable to DVD, at 640X480 resolution.

iTunes customers will be able to buy blockbusters such as "Terminator 2", "LA Story", "Basic Instinct", "The Blair Witch Project", "Saw" and "Dirty Dancing" and enjoy them whenever they like. The following weeks more movies will be added, including the well-known action films "Total Recall" and "Rambo". "Chaplin" and "The Boys From Brazil", longtime classic Lionsgate movies will soon become available on iTunes as well.

Apple's iTunes Store features the largest catalog of media products, with over 4 million songs, 350 TV shows and over 400 movies, with the latest addition of Lionsgate productions. iTunes has become the largest, most popular online music, movie and TV store and it has sold more than 2 billion songs, 50 million TV shows and 1.3 million films.

Lions Gate Entertainment Corporation is a Canadian leading independent film entertainment studio. Lionsgate Films has produced and distributed motion pictures, TV programs and home & family entertainment. The company is well-known for distributing highly controversial movies, such as "Fahrenheit 9/11", that were too much for the major American studios.

Lionsgate also distributed "Crash", a motion picture that created quite a stir after being awarded with three Oscars for Best Picture, Best Original Screenplay and Best Editing in 2005. The picture was mainly about inter-racial relations in contemporary LA and many said it was not socially accurate. Film critics felt "Brokeback Mountain" should have won the Best Picture Oscar that year.
