Botswana's Okavango Delta recently witnessed an amazing battle between a mother lion and a crocodile.

Apparently, while the lioness was trying to cross the river with its cubs, the animal suddenly became aware of the fact that said reptile was hiding in the murky waters, waiting to feed on one or two of the ignorant and vulnerable youngsters.

Wildlife photographer Pia Dierickx succeeded in capturing the exact moment when the lioness decided that it had no choice but to strike first.

The crocodile naturally responded to the attack, but it didn't really stand a chance against the brave feline.

Once the cubs got safely across the river, their mother followed them, and the pride quickly moved away from the battlefield.

Seeing how lions are an endangered species, it can only be good news that the members of this small pride managed to overcome this threat all by themselves.
