Zoos often give animals frozen treats when it's hot outside

It's been pretty hot in Australia these days, which is why staff at zoos across the country have had to come up with fairly imaginative ways to help the animals in their care keep cool.

The Rex USA photo above shows a male lion currently living in captivity at the Melbourne Zoo enjoying a much-deserved "bloodsicle."

Otherwise put, what the big cat is licking with noteworthy enthusiasm is some eight gallons of frozen blood, Huffington Post details.

Not at all surprisingly, it would appear that the photo has gone viral this week, the same source tells us.

Ordinary folks who don't have a sweet tooth for blood might not feel any jealousy at the sight of the joy and pleasure on the felines face, but Edward Cullen is sure to be cornered by the green-eyed monster.

In case anyone was wondering, Australia is still experiencing extreme heat. Media reports say that, until now, the heat wave has caused the states of Victoria and South Australia to be hit by a series of wildfires that firefighters are currently trying to contain.
