A 18-month-old lion by the name Sterk is quite a celebrity in Canada. The feline currently lives at the Oaklawn Farm Zoo in Nova Scotia, and, according to its caretakers, it’s a big fan of ice hockey.

In fact, Sterk likes ice hockey so much that it has taken up this sport itself.

Daily Mail tells us that the lion first learned how cool it was to glide on ice when the pond in his enclosure froze.

Apparently, the feline just loved hearing the ice crack beneath its paws, and soon become quite fond of spending time on the pond.

As one point, keepers brought it some rubber balls and also introduced it to some pucks made from ice and snow, and Sterk started hitting them with its paws just like a professional hockey player armed with nothing but a stick would.

“Sterk really appreciates the company of his human friends, who come to play with him every day.”

“In the summer months we play soccer and Frisbee but during the winter months we enjoy playing on his frozen pond,” a spokesperson for the zoo told the press.

Needless to say, visitors to the zoo very much enjoy watching the 18-month-old male lion playing hockey with its caretakers.
