Enhance the stability, compatibility, migration and security of your server

Weighing in at 1GB, OS X Lion Server 10.7.3 was released yesterday in tandem with the Client Lion update. OS X 10.7.3 Server includes some of the fixes and enhancements delivered in the consumer version of Lion, but also packs a ton of exclusive changes.

OS X Lion Update 10.7.3 (Server) “is recommended for all servers currently running Lion Server,” according to Cupertino.

“This update includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility, migration and security of your server and improvements of the following services and applications,” reads the change log.

Apple then proceeds to list these apps and services that comprise Lion Server, and their respective changes, such as the File Sharing pane, the VPN pane, the Web pane in the Server application, Wiki Server, and Profile Manager.

OS X Lion Server 10.7.3 also includes fixes for some specific areas. According to Apple, those are:

- iCal Server auto-acceptance of meetings during free times - authenticated directory binding to Open Directory servers with Directory Utility - improved reliability of setting up Open Directory replicas - correctly create podcasts when bound to an Active Directory server using Podcast Publisher - improved support for different certificates used for IMAP/POP and SMTP in the Server application - improved searching of logs in the Server application - web password reset support when using the Internet Explorer 9 browser

According to a support document on Apple’s web site, there are many more fixes and enhancements to be had in this update. There are three ways to update to Lion Server v10.7.3. Those are: Software Update; standalone installer; via Server Admin or the 'softwareupdate' command-line utility.
