Texas Instruments announced that they will deploy Linux on their new video devices.

As part of this movement, the company announced that their favorite distribution is MontaVista Linux. MontaVista is a well known distro which runs on embedded devices and is a RTOS (Real Time Operating System), a class of operating systems intended for real-time applications. The implementation which will contain MontaVista Linux is called Digital Video Software Development Kit and is made to tune complex DaVinci-based digital video systems.

The DaVinci Technology Kit supports software with hardware integration and system visualization technology made for digital video applications. Digital equipments like video phones, video security systems and other advanced digital video applications will benefit from this movement.

Also, there will be a full board support package made by MontaVista especially for video applications.

There are two versions of Digital Software Development Kit. The first includes the Digital Video Software Development Kit with MontaVista Pro Linux which is for developers that just want MontaVista. The second version is more complex and includes Digital Video Software Development Bundle with MontaVista Pro Linux, Code Composer Studio and XDS560 Emulator and is meant to be a framework for DSP and ARM developers that need Code Composer Studio, an Emulator and MontaVista Linux.
