Microsoft now has a powerful new competitor in the living room

Valve announcing SteamOS is probable Microsoft biggest nightmare, but they aren't acknowledging it just yet.

The living room has been dominated by consoles for more than 20 years, but things are about to change. The fact that Linux is about to take over must be quite worrying for Microsoft, which has a vested interest in dominating the biggest room in the house for the next few years with Xbox One.

“The announcement was only made last night so I'm still studying all the facts Valve has released. But Valve is a very impressive company, and obviously we're going to be watching what they do with great interest,” stated Microsoft's EMEA Phil Harrison, corporate vice-president, in an interview with Eurogamer.

Microsoft hasn't really taken Linux as a serious contender so far, but the Valve announcement about SteamOS could make them wonder why they didn't think of it first.
