The Linux Foundation, the non-profit organization that manages the entire Linux project and employs Linus Torvalds, the original developer of the project and the current maintainer of the most advanced version, has just released a video showing his home working space.

This new video is part of a greater endeavor of The Linux Foundation that is trying to better connect the developers with the community by showing everyone what the developers are using and how they are working. This is just a clip form a lager series called “30 Linux Kernel Developer Workspaces in 30 Weeks,” and a couple of other Linux kernel developers have already unveiled their workspace.

“Have you ever wondered what the workspace of the world's most famous developer looks like? Well wonder no more. Linux creator Linus Torvalds invites you into his home office in this first-ever, personal tour of his workspace. It also includes behind the scenes laughs and footage, as well as a closer look at what he keeps on his desk and what he does between kernel releases. He also demonstrates how he uses his ‘zombie shuffling desk’ (his walking desk) while working on the world's most ubiquitous software.”

“This is the continuation of a series that has featured Greg Kroah-Hartman and Steve Rostedt, among others. It shares Linux kernel developers' workspaces and gives us all more insight on how best to work with the world's top talent in software. Enjoy the tour and hear more from Linus when he takes the stage at LinuxCon in Chicago on August 20,” reads the small blog post on the linuxfoundation.org website.

The working space of Linus Torvalds is nothing like you would imagine. It's rather small, but the center piece is the walking desk. Basically, he rigged his monitor, keyboard, and mouse to work on top of a treadmill, and he says that he's doing all of his work walking.

The rest of the office looks a little bit like a hoarder’s room and even Linus agrees that he should be throwing most of the stuff that he's collected over the years, including numerous hard drives that seem to be lying everywhere.

It's also nice to see his tux collection and that he actually keeps most of the interesting penguins that have been sent to him over the years. He's also quite proud of his 3D printer, although it seems that it's not being used as much as he would like.

Enjoy!
