On March 10, Linus Torvalds announced the immediate availability of the second release candidate in the 3.9 branch of the Linux kernel.

According to Linux Torvalds, this latest version of Linux kernel is not too big and implements a regular number of changes and improvements.

“The diffstat is reasonably flat (good sign), with wireless network drivers standing out. And that's mainly due to a new driver for the ASIX AX88179_178A USB gigabit controller.

“Other than network drivers, we've got some drm updates, md and gpio, btrfs, etworking, arm, sound.. Stuff all over the place, but nothing horribly scary,” said Torvalds.

More details about the updates and the new features in the kernel can be found in the official announcement. Download Linux kernel 3.9 RC2 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is a development release and it is intended for testing purposes only.
