One day after the announcement for Linux Mint 6 Fluxbox CE, Clement Lefebvre and the community behind the Linux Mint project announced last evening the immediate availability of the final release of Linux Mint 6 (Felicia) KDE Community Edition: "On behalf of the team I am thrilled to announce the release of Linux Mint 6 KDE. Congratulations to Jamie Boo Birse, maintainer of this edition, for the integration of a fantastic KDE4 desktop and the excellent work he’s done for this release."

Linux Mint 6 (Felicia) KDE Edition is based on Kubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) and it is powered by Linux kernel 2.6.27, X.Org 7.4 and KDE 4.2. It also includes a new package manager, the popular Amarok 2.0 media player and lots of improvements. Even if the ISO image of Linux Mint 6 KDE does not contain the KDE 4.2.2 packages, they will be available as an update right after the installation (if you activate the Kubuntu Experimental repositories)!

What took so long? This is based on Kubintu 8.10, but Kubuntu 9.4 is releasing just several days from now. This version is essentially depreciated before it's released. In comparison, Mepis had already tested several "release candidates" *before* Lenny was final. Once Lenney was final all they had to do was ensure there weren't' any surprises.

I like the gnome version of Linux Mint...KDE is too bloated!
