Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" MATE is now available for download and it looks like this flavor is gaining more popularity with the community. Let’s take a closer look at this MATE-powered version and see some of its features in this screenshot tour.

Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" MATE is in the first tier of flavors that usually ships and it's one of the most used versions from the entire Mint family. It all has to do with the MATE desktop environment, which is much appreciated by the fans of the former GNOME 2.

It's true that MATE has come a long way, but it retains some of the looks of the old GNOME 2 and there are a lot of users out there who are still pining for it.

According to the changelog, the distribution ships with MATE 1.8 which, in turn, has some very interesting features. For example, Marco, the window manager, now has side-by-side tiling, the logout dialog now features a progress bar, the screensaver now shows the date and time, a new "command" applet has been added, and the image viewer can now shuffle pictures in slideshow mode.

These changes don't even scratch the surface of what has been implemented in this latest Mint release. You can check our original report to see more details about the launch. You can download Linux Mint 17 "Qiana" MATE right now from Softpedia.
