Linux Mint 17.2 RC "Rafaela" Cinnamon has been released, and it's now available for download. This new version comes with Cinnamon 2.6, so it's a pretty important milestone.

We've known for some time that Linux Mint 17.2 "Rafaela" Cinnamon will integrate the latest version of the desktop environment, and it's finally here, although it's just an RC. This means that some bugs still exist, but the Linux Mint team is a very capable one, and the stable version won't be too far behind. In any case, we'll have a very good opportunity to see what's new.

As some of you are already aware of, Linux Mint now only uses the Ubuntu LTS as a base for their distros. This frees up a lot of resources for the developers, and it allows them to focus more on this intermediary releases, which have become quite consistent. It's difficult to remember when we had such a consistent update for Linux Mint, and that is actually good news for users who want to have the very latest and the very best.

Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon will soon become a favorite

There is information regarding the release of the stable version, but each new release has been a success for Linux Mint in past few years and there is no reason to suspect that it won't be the case with the new one as well. The devs don't follow a precise launch schedule, so it's ready when it's ready.

"Linux Mint 17.2 is a long term support release which will be supported until 2019. It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make your desktop even more comfortable to use," reads the official announcement.

We already covered Cinnamon 2.6 in great detail, but there are other things besides the update for the desktop environment. For example, the Software Sources configuration tool has been refined, the Update Manager should offer much clearer updates, the display manager has been improved, and numerous other smaller changes have been made.

Check the official announcement for more details about this release. You can download Linux Mint 17.2 RC "Rafaela" Cinnamon right now from Softpedia. This is a Live CD, and it should run without any issues from a USB key or in a virtual environment.
