Linux Mint 17.1 "Rebecca" Xfce has been announced by the Linux Mint team and is now ready for download. The makers of this distro have finally finished the work for this particular flavor of the distribution.

The Linux Mint project has four main flavors, Cinnamon, MATE, KDE, and Xfce. The later ones are usually released with a slight delay, but that doesn't mean that they don't receive the same kind of attention. The KDE edition landed just last week and it's time for the Xfce flavor.

Some of the features implemented in Linux Mint 17.1 "Rebecca" Xfce are quite interesting, especially the addition of Compiz support by default. As you can imagine, all the other improvements that have landed in all the other flavors for the 17.1 branch are also present.

The KDE and Xfce versions usually land closer together, but this time the devs had a small gap between the two of them. It's not a big deal and the Xfce edition is an excellent release.

"Linux Mint 17.1 is a long term support release which will be supported until 2019. It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make your desktop experience more comfortable to use. Among the various window managers available for Linux, Compiz is certainly the most impressive when it comes to desktop effects. There's nothing quite like a rotating cube to catch everybody's attention," reads the official announcement.

The distribution also received some specific improvements. For example, Blu-Ray support has been added to Xfburn, the categories in the menus now react to hover by default, the Firefox and terminal now have shortcut by default in the panel, and the clock applet has been updated.

Other modifications include an improved Update Manager, a better kernel installation menu, the language settings have been refined, the Login screen is now configurable, the default artwork has been updated as well.

You can download Linux Mint 17.1 "Rebecca" Xfce right now from Softpedia and give it a spin.
